Thursday (05/10/23), In the last few days, Riau Province, especially Pekanbaru City, has begun to be surrounded by smoke haze caused by land fires from neighboring provinces. The Pekanbaru City Government immediately took immediate steps. Through the Education Department, the Pekanbaru city government asked schools to reduce student activities outdoors. This was done to anticipate that students would not be exposed to smog due to poor air quality.
Based on data from the BMKG website, it can be seen that the air in Pekanbaru City is at the yellow or unhealthy level. The air quality appeared to have dropped to moderate levels at around 03.00 WIB this morning. However, as the sun approaches sunrise, the air quality worsens again to unhealthy levels. Until 07.00 WIB the air was still at unhealthy status.
Pekanbaru’s smog lasted almost a week. The air quality is at an unhealthy level, so the Pekanbaru City Government issued a circular about wearing a mask when leaving the house. This situation makes Pekanbaru rank third nationally as an area exposed to forest and land fires haze.
Various health problems arise as a result of the haze disaster, such as shortness of breath, lung disease, eye irritation, chest pain, coughing, and so on. One way to overcome the bad effects of haze on health is to use a mask when traveling and reducing activities outside the home
